Punch walk

One kitchen, four decisions.

When it's time to remodel the heart of the house, the team walks you through the process, listening to your vision and offering expert advice. These are the four calls every Z kitchen turns on.

Open kitchen with two stone-topped oak islands, a black range hood, linear pendants and a view into the family room

Scopes of work

From a small bathroom to multiple homes at once.

Everything Z Construction takes on is residential. Pick a scope to see the work; each one has its own page with how the job actually runs.

New construction & additions

New two-storey home with a stone entry tower, black-framed windows and a three-car garage

Ground-up homes and additions that belong to the house they join. Z Construction handles every part of it, from engineering drawings and securing permits to the final finishing touches, as one turnkey job.

How a new build or addition runs

Kitchens

Oak kitchen island with a stone top and stools, open to a family room

Custom cabinetry, countertop installation, appliance upgrades and a layout that fixes storage and workflow. The team listens to your vision first, then walks you through every decision.

Kitchen remodeling

Bathrooms

Primary bathroom with an oak double vanity, marble-look walls and a glass shower

Primary suites, family baths and small powder rooms: upgraded fixtures, tile and vanities in a layout that fits the room. A remodeled bath changes how it works and adds value to the whole house.

Bathroom remodeling

Basements & other spaces

Lower-level bar with black cabinetry, open shelving and four upholstered stools

Basements built for living, entertaining, work or play, plus mudrooms, decks and outdoor spaces: the rest of the house, finished with the same care as the kitchen.

Since 2001

More than 500 projects across Chicago and the North Shore

Projects across Chicago and the North Shore, from Lincolnshire to Evanston.

The team brings a combined 100+ years of construction experience to every job, and the firm's whole pitch is personalised service, start to finish.

The firm behind the Z

Turnkey

Drawing to door, one firm.

Their own word for it is turnkey: one firm carries the job from the first drawing to the last fixture. Scroll the set: six sheets, in the order a job runs.

  1. Consultation

    Listen first

Free, and it starts with your vision for the house. Call (847) 942-9070 and Brad or Shari will set a time to walk through what you want it to become.

  2. Drawings

    Decide it on paper

New homes and additions start with engineering drawings, so the structure, the rooflines and the room sizes are settled before anyone orders lumber.

  3. Permits

    Permits secured

Z Construction secures the permits as part of the job. You are not the one chasing approvals.

  4. Build

    One schedule, every trade

Clients write about crews who showed up when they were scheduled to show up, and a job site cleaned up daily.

  5. Finish

    The finishing touches

Trim, hardware, fixtures and the punch list. Aimee S. notes the project landed on time and on budget, and the team came back months later to fix small problems.

  6. After

    Still a phone call away

Karen S. says that 12 years later they still call with questions, and every service person who visits remarks on how well the house was built.

Yes. Shari works through selections with clients, including trips to showrooms and introductions to suppliers, and clients describe interior design consulting as part of the job: where to spend, where to save and how the rooms will actually be lived in.
